Sizing a Parcel to specific Area/Square Feet

Sizing a Parcel to specific Area/Square Feet

Sizing a Parcel to specific Area/Square Feet

(OP)
Say I have a parcel, 4 sides already exist its, its about 5 acres. I want to cut out a piece that is exactly 4,000 square feet. And I know what two sides I want to use to cut it out. I read the help file about slide bearings ect., tried it and can't figure it out. Anyone know the best/easiest method for doing this? Its illustrated in the help file but I still dont get it! Thanks

jim

RE: Sizing a Parcel to specific Area/Square Feet

This is one where it seems like it would be easier just using geometry than fancy gadgetry, but maybe I'm misreading.

The polygon is 4 sides.  You know two sides.  You will have to end up with a rectangle and two triangles.  Start with a rectangle that best fits the area you want to subdivide.  Place that, then form the two triangles around it.  find their combined areas.  I would guess that with 2 or 3 iterations, you will have your parcel exactly the # of sf you need.

Or a dummy like myself would just create a polyline around the general area (matching the two known sides) and add a field that displays the area of the polyline. Then toying with the other sides until I got it right on!
