Cleaning zinc off 316ss with HCl
Cleaning zinc off 316ss with HCl
(OP)
I want to clean the zinc off a sink roll in a galv line pot using an HCl bath. The roll would be dipped in a 15% HCl concentration to remove the zinc. I am assuming we will still need to machine the surface once we remove the roll? I want to know if the HCl could be corosive enough to cause damage more than 3/1000 below the surface?

RE: Cleaning zinc off 316ss with HCl
We have the HCl already and we want to keep cost to a minimum. right now we machine about 40/1000 off the rolls. so even 10 would be a lot better.

Also, 15 wt% ammonium nitrate at room T.
Also, can anodic strip in 10 (w/v)% NaOH at 4 V, using steel anodes at room T.
Nitric acid would be best.
