Disappearing Sketches

Disappearing Sketches

Disappearing Sketches

(OP)
We are currently using V5R14 SP1. We have recently noticed our sketches are disappearing. Our methodology has us using alot of boolean operations, when we add/subtract the solid from the model and step back into the tree to modify the sketch it's seems to be hidden from our sight yet it doesn't appear to be in "no show" either.
What we have found is breaking the part back out of the tree (doing away with the add/remove) and then modifying the sketch we can clearly see and modify the sketch, it doesn't seem to be consistent for all booleans and sketches making it harder to track what's causing the problem.
Does anyone have a solution or experienced this same problem?

thank you in advance!

RE: Disappearing Sketches

I have seen that back in R14, not that it helps but it is resolved in R16.  I would keep the sketches in a geometric set to avoid this problem.

Regards,
Derek

RE: Disappearing Sketches

Yes, I would agree with that, Derek.  I still don't understand why people keep sketches in PartBody, anyway.

RE: Disappearing Sketches

Yes, keep them in geometric set then rename them to make it easy to pick them out from the tree.

Cheers

I don't know anything but the people that do.

RE: Disappearing Sketches

I haven't been using v5 for very long, but why would keeping the sketches in a geometric set be better? It seems easier to manage when in the part body, especially when you have multiple bodies in a part.

RE: Disappearing Sketches

How is it easier to manage sketches scattered throughout multiple part bodies, as opposed to a geometrical set with ONLY sketches in it?

For one things, it's just a good habit to have things labelled and organized with similar elements, or in logical groupings.  Of course, this is just my opinion, as some people are masters of dealing with their own chaos.

RE: Disappearing Sketches

Solid7,

We have hundreds of designers, drafters managing sketches under the solid features...

And we use sketches for many things, from X section to solid feature profile, we use output features also, and sketches for many other purposes... We all manage our file/geometry without sketch problem...

We do not put all sketches in one(or several) geometrical set to manage them but to filter them when drawing X-section.

You might call that Chaos... but no big problem for several years...

RE: Disappearing Sketches

O.K. guys. The question was put out there because I, really, haven't been working on V5 but for a few months. Was just wondering so that I wouldn't run into problems that I may not know about yet. It would seem it's just one of those preferences things.
My thanks!
