Futaba scale reesolution

Futaba scale reesolution

Does anyone know the resolution of a Futaba Pulscale linear encoder model SM305A? I have googled this to death and cannot find any data. I believe the "5" is for either 5 microns or 5 tenths of a thousandth but I am not sure. Any help will be appreciated. I need to spec a replacement.

Thanks,
Scott

RE: Futaba scale reesolution

Hi, There is usually a nameplate on the scale or head saying what resolution you have. And always with the "mu" sign if it is in microns. Covered with dirt? Fallen off? Not in any manual that comes with the machine?

Hi Gunnar,
No tags aside from the model and serial #. This scale is on a machine built by a competitor of ours (Elox). It has an edm generator that was built by us. The customer that has it now bought it 2nd hand from a major aircraft engine mfr. Apparently, they do not have any of the original doco except the manual for the generator that they ordered from us. Now, why they have not contacted Elox about this scale is beyond me. I get lots of fun stuff like this.hairpull

ScottI2R:  Did you find the resolution of the scale?  If it still matters, I have a Futaba CJ3024 with 2 SM305A and one SM205A and the CJ says it can show .002, .001 .0005, .0001, .00005 or .00002 selectable.  I can look on the scales if you are interested.  The Futaba came from an Elox 8-62.  You must be a AGIE / Charmelles guy.  Ever heard of an Agietron Elesta?

Hi cncad,
Actually, we replaced the Futaba with an Accurite scale and a converter box that we make. I worked with / for Charmilles some when we were BOTH owned by George Fischer Group in the early 90's (92). I am a Raycon guy, but I have not heard of Agietron Elesta, just Agie.

Oh, BTW, Futaba scales may not exist, but if you look them up on the web, you can get all sorts of cool RC stuff!

Thanks,
Scott
