Rotating perpendicularly

Rotating perpendicularly

Rotating perpendicularly

(OP)
Hello,

The last few versions of Solid Edge seem to have dropped the ability to rotate an object (in Sketch or Draft) and have it snap perpendicularly to another line.  For some reason the handle for a perpendicular relationship will not activate while rotating.

This is causing me no end of frustration while trying to draw certain parts.  I know that a perpendicular relationship can be applied, but this is a very cumbersome process with the type of part I am drawing.

I need to rotate more than a single item and have it line up at 90 degrees to another object, but applying a perpendicular relationship only allows a single line to be rotated at a time and I am unable to do this with a rectangle.

Am I missing something obvious?  Seems that removing the ability to rotate perpendicularly is something most will need to do.

Any help would be appreciated.

Tim

RE: Rotating perpendicularly

Are the Perpendicular and Horiz/Vert relationships checked in your tools>Intellisketch>relationships?

HI,

Yes, both Perpendicular and Horiz/Vert are checked.

RE: Rotating perpendicularly

Sometimes you need to mouse over the line you want to infer a constraint to, otherwise SE doesn't know which line to be parallel or perpendicular to.

Also, with too many intellisketch items checked, the ones that take priority will "block" the ones you want to use.  Yes, there is a pecking order as to how SE infers constraints.  For example, horiz/vertical are number 1 while parrallel and perpendicular are last on the list.  Turning off excess intellisketch items may help you.

I suspected that might be the case, and have tried with all but the perpendicular turned on, but still it will not activate.

Try this, draw a single line at an angle, then draw a rectangle crossing it.  Now attempt to highlight the entire rectangle, and rotate it perpendicular to that angled line.

When I attempt this, no perpendicular handle will activate, all others will if they are turned on in Intellisketch.

Has me buffalloed.....
