Configuration Makes Large File Size
Configuration Makes Large File Size
(OP)
I have a model that has two configurations. The model is a block with three R.750 corners and one sharp corner. The only difference between the configurations is the location of the sharp corner. Before I created the configuration in the model, the file size was 41mb. After the configuration (a difference of only one suppressed feature) the file size jumped to 61mb.
Is this normal?
Thanks.

RE: Configuration Makes Large File Size
You can try doing a 'Save As' and saving the part over top of itself. This, many times, helps to shrink the file size. I'm not sure why though...

Each file has a Windows history (such as who opened it, when, etc.)
When you save as, you create a new file with no history. This is why saving as can make files smaller.
There are programs on the net which automatically erase this data to reduce file size.

I've used it for years with no issues.
RE: Configuration Makes Large File Size
I've used this Save As for a while, Saving Part1.SLDPRT as Part1A.SLDPRT, than used Windows Explorer to erease the Part1.SLDPRT and re-name Part1A.SLDPRT to Part1.SLDPRT and immediatelly to make this file Read-Only. This is to prevent the next assy of re-saving that Part1.SLDPRT when saving assy (or dwg). You do get messages of: "This file is read-only" but you just Cancel at that point.
This is clumsy, but sometime you can shrink some files from say 30 Mb to around 12 Mb
