Need cover or guard for dial control

Need cover or guard for dial control

Need cover or guard for dial control

(OP)
I am in need of a cover or guard that would lockout a simple dial knob on a critical piece of equipment.

The knob is 1" diameter by 5/8" deep. There appears to be about an inch of clearance all around.

The design I envision is a ring (say 1.5" ID) which fits over the knob and is secured to the machine control panel. The ring would have several protruding tabs. The cylindrical cover or guard would have cutouts along the inside rim that engage the tabs when the cover is given a 1/4 turn.

Does anyone know of such a product, or have a better idea? I am open to any suggestions.

Thank you

And where does the cover go when it is removed?

Go to Home Depot.  You will probably find a variety of electrical socket covers intended for outdoor use that would likely work.

Allied Electronics
McMaster Carr
MSC Direct
Newark Electronics

One of those should have something suitable.

How about making a simple pivoting cover?  Have you ever seen "Deal or No Deal" ?  You could put a lock on it too.

Whatever you end up using, if it's a loose part, it'll get lost (as I think MintJulep was implying).

Thanks for the replies so far. Just to clarify the application, the dial knob controls the speed of a HEPA blower. Normally it is set once and left alone, but 'normal' sometimes takes the day off at our production plant, so the brass asked for a lockout.

The Allied electronic site shows promise, particularly in the idec corp. switch guards.
