Ignorance in Non-Return Technology

Ignorance in Non-Return Technology

(OP)
I need so help choosing the correct type of non-return device to use.  Please help.
1) There's some 1/2" OD SS  equipment drainage tubing(assume elevation head of under 12" only) that is being backflowed upon by an undersized drainage tank.
2) I can't change the tank or do any major tubing rerouting.
3) I'm designing under CSA N285.0 / ASME III/ND constraints.

I've looked at Swagelok's Poppet (C Series) and Lift (50 Series) check valves.  I would love to use some sort of ball trap device but we're under cdn nuclear restrictions here.  My concern is that

1)  although Swagelok has a 1/3 psi (~9-1/4"H2O) crack, can I rely on this or do I risk flooding my equipment because it won't crack?
2)  what operational problems do I run into with a lift check?  What would cause the "peg/piston" to get stuck either open (backflow again) or closed (equipment flooding).

Can somebody suggest another alternative, I'm all ears?
