What software to program a Modicon 984?

What software to program a Modicon 984?

(OP)
What software should I use to program an older Modicon 984 PLC? My drawings state that it is a Compact 984 controller and AI Model 255. I have not been to site to inspect the PLC for exact model number. I am used of working on AB products. Is there a software simular in style and ease as RSLogix series.

RE: What software to program a Modicon 984?

There is a dedicated Modicon forum http://modicon.control.com/ which is supported by Schneider.

So far as I am aware you will need either ProWorx or, if you can find it, Modsoft. Modsoft is an old DOS package which is probably unsupported but it works. There are copies around if you ask the right (wrong?) people. ProWorx is not cheap, so you might get a nasty surprise. Your PLC is almost certainly not compatible with Concept, the latest software which is so expensive that it makes A-B look sensibly priced. If you are speaking to Schneider get the exact PLC model number and write a compatibility clause into the purchase agreement. They will probably try to sell you Concept as it is the most expensive and newest.

ProWorx 32.  It's about $1k for the "lite version" which I have.  Once you get help from their excellent support, which you might get access to with the purchase, (free for some period), you will find it works pretty well.

Be aware that it runs some sort of "variety kernel" and the default variety is not 984!  So they will have you download a 984 kernel, you will avoid the days of hair pulling that I went thru..
