ptfe powder

ptfe powder

(OP)
Does anybody know of a source for a small quantity of PTFE powder in the 80 mesh particle size. I need about 2-0z. Most of the powder I find offered, is much finer about 10 microns. I know I can play the evaluation sample game. I do not like to do that to suppliers, when I have no intention of buying more of their product. This is to produce a PTFE loaded bearing, by cold molding with epoxy resin.
Thanking whoever helps in advance,
B.E.

RE: ptfe powder

For that size particle your best bet would be to find someone that does compression or isostatic molding of Teflon. It will still be iffy as none of the samples I have aren't anywhere near that large.

That was what I ran into. The biggest particle size I could find was 35 microns. Then when I looked at granular resins it jumped to 650 microns.
Unless I am getting my conversion factors wrong, 80 mesh is about 320 microns correct?

RE: ptfe powder

I get an 80 mesh screen particle size to be 177 microns or 0.071 inches.
An 80(88) micron particle requires a 170 mesh screen (U.S. Std).

Do you need a particle size of 80 microns, a particle size that will be retained on an 170 mesh screen after passing through a 150 mesh screen?

Or, a particle that will be retained on an 80 mesh screen, which will be 177 microns?

It might takes us some time to resolve this as particle sizes and screens always provokes discussions. Sometimes heated.

I was looking for a particle that would be retained on an 80 mesh screen. 170 to 180 microns.
All I seem to find are 20 to 35 micron or 650 micron, nothing between.
I guess I am going to have to settle for the finer particle size.
