LASER Scanners
LASER Scanners
(OP)
Has anyone got experience of using Laser Scanners such as CYRAX, RIEGL, CALLIDUS instruments. I would apreciate feedback about usefulness and especially how well the CAD software works with these instruments.
Thank you,
Thank you,

RE: LASER Scanners
it is very usefull for profiling objects and relief projects. it collects X, Y, Z directly in a very short time. and you can use those data with all CAD programs. after, evaluation of data depends on you and your software.
this system is very amazing.
if you have more detailed question, you are wellcome..
RE: LASER Scanners
i AM aware of the capabilities of these instruments but rather lack knowledge on how easily it fits in with CAD applications ie. bestfit with pipes, circles, etc to convert point clouds into meaningful CAD shapes- deduce diameters of pipes etc - how good is the software which does that?
Thank you in anticipation of your reply.
RE: LASER Scanners
when you buy instrument, they gave you an original software. but as i said before you can use all CADs. when u evaluate those points they become CAD shapes. for example trianglulation or lattice.
for this kind of aplications i use MicroSation and GeoTerrain softwares, etc. although you can use all CAD software. ofcourse the software, you want to use, requires some customisations for application.
you can render, extract profile or measure all the objects. if you havent seen cyrax's site (www.cyra.com), you should see it. there are some example videos about applications.
good luck
