Has anyone designed a wood structure as per the referenced code item?  I have a garage with no braced walls in the front and the architect wants to keep it that way.

Thanks

RE: IBC 2308.12.6.2 Design of Irregular Structures

If you have three braced walls, then you can design it as a cantilever from the back wall with the other two walls taking the push/pull - check your diaphragm though!

Thanks.  I am a little dense.  How do I solve this?  To be honest where do I begin?

RE: IBC 2308.12.6.2 Design of Irregular Structures

There is a great example of this type of analysis and design in one of the greater text books every written (IMHO):

Design of Wood Structures, 4th edition ASD by Donald E. Breyer etal.

I would strongly suggest getting this book. It is an excellent source of methodology however, since the damn code cycles are so short, these books are always two code cycles behind.

WE NEED 10 YEAR CODE CYCLES!!! Ugh
