File and Folder names truncated

File and Folder names truncated

File and Folder names truncated

(OP)
Last week I updated from 2006 SP4 to 2007 SP1. I then started having problems when I open a file. The "Open" dialog box truncates file names to 28 or so characters(it varies), but not all long file names are truncated, it seems to be folder specific. I also noticed it does the same thing with some folder names if they are long winded.
I am running PDM Works 2007 also, but all seems ok there.
Today I updated to 2007 SP1.1 hoping this would go away, but it hasn't

Any suggestions??

RE: File and Folder names truncated

You should always do a new isntallation of the next major version and not an upgrade. I suggest you uninstall clean out the registry and reinstall SW. - See FAQ's on how to do a clean uninstall and reinstall.

Sorry I wasn't clear, I did a new installation from 2006 to 2007, I installed it in a SolidWorks 2007 folder and I left my 2006 SP4 installation alone. Then I upgrade to SP1 and then another upgrade to SP1. I have since uninstalled my 2006 version

Also noticed, In the "Open" Dialog Box when I select Menu View "Details" I'm not getting any preview of the model as I should. Although when I select "Thumbnails" it shows the model clearly.
I have other applications that when I "Open" can see the entire file name and the Details preview works too. It seems to be just SolidWorks.

OK, DUH...I turned on the preview check box at the bottom of the dialog box it works fine. But file names are still chopped short

RE: File and Folder names truncated

I've been seeing the same behavior. File name are truncated in the list of files, but if you pick a file in the list, the full name shows up in the "File Name:" line below the list box. The truncated names are not showing up with the three dots at the end of the name like you would see if you simply had the space slider moved too far to the left.

I submitted it to my VAR, he told me he was seeing the same thing, but when he submitted it to SW, they responded by telling him they could not reproduce the problem.

So, I sent my VAR an Rx video yesterday. I have not heard back from my VAR yet. SW DID suggest I try deleting my HKCU/Software/SolidWorks key, but that did not change the problem.

RE: File and Folder names truncated

My IT guy found the problem!!

Under HKCU\Software\SolidWorks\SolidWorks 2007\User Interface\Settings\OpenFileDialog

the DetailViewActiveCol was set to 0x00000001, with some weird letter combination in parenthesis.

He set it to 2.

Now I don't see the truncated file names....

RE: File and Folder names truncated

Oops, spoke too soon. Somehow that registry key is getting reset. It goes back to 0xffffffff. When that happens, the file names are truncated again.

Anyone with a clue as to what might cause that?

Thanks,

Steve R.

RE: File and Folder names truncated

Chris -

I couldn't find anything. I submitted this to VAR, he sent it up the line, they said they couldn't reproduce the problem. I scanned the SPR's before I even called my VAR (I normally do) but I didn't see anything associated. Did you have a particular SPR in mind?

Thanks,

Steve R.

RE: File and Folder names truncated

SPR 335152 looks close, not sure

RE: File and Folder names truncated

Yup, that looks like it. Thanks! I missed it. (Must be those "49again" eyes just not performin' like they used to).

Guess like I can just cool my jets on this 'til SP2.

Thanks again, Chris
