Software to design for AISC 360-05

Software to design for AISC 360-05

Does anyone know of a software package that performs designs according to AISC 360-05 (the new AISC Specification)?  The spec. requires consideration of second order effects.  The process would be much quicker with a software package.

RE: Software to design for AISC 360-05

I'm not aware of any, my guess is that it'll take a while before this hits the shelves.

RE: Software to design for AISC 360-05

The spec has required consideration of second order effects for a good while - are you just talking about the new possible methods of analysis (Direct Design)?  If so, a general software package like SAP2000 would be already capable of designing per this method if you put in the correct stiffnesses and notional loads by hand.

The 1989 ASD Spec. does not explicitly require P-delta analysis.  The new spec ASD/LRFD explicitly requires P-delta.  WillisV, you are correct in that the LRFD spec has required this for some time.  We use ASD for nearly all our steel design.

We use RISA 3-D currently; it can do P-delta analyses.  It does not perform AISC 360-05 design checks on those results.

I guess I could write some post-processor spreadsheets to make these checks for me, but the time (=money) involved in putting them together could be better spent on a package that already performs these checks.
