BagHouse Design

BagHouse Design

(OP)
I'm going to be working on a new project in an area that I have no experience in and I'm trying to learn as much as possible before it starts.  Has anyone done any design work for a baghouse before?  I presume that it will be mostly plate design with interior trusses and a few stiffeners here and there.

Any recommendations or helpful tips/info would be greatly appreciated.

RE: BagHouse Design

I have worked on some bins and hoppers, including baghouses.  You are correct to assume plate construction with stiffeners, etc., as this is typically the case.

The Structural Engineering Handbook has a chapter on bins and silos, that you might find of value.  also, Blodgett's "Design of Welded Structures" will be of great help.

I am assuming that you may have the potential for internal vacuum, as well as internal positive pressure.  the latter is usually much easier to handle than the former.  Think of the behavior of a plastic soda bottle when you take a drink from it.  The bottle will collapse if you draw the soad out too quickly.  On the other hand, the soda bottle cand handle, without collapse, any amount of air that you blow into it (with a seal at the top).  Basically, with a vacuum, you are dealing with stability, which will need to be included in the design.

Please keep this thread going and post any questions.  I will check to see if there are any new postings and be glad to share any information I have with you.
