Cyanide corrosion

Hi Any useful information regarding corrosion of an 80mm "Y" strainer operating in a line carrying 80% water 20% cyanide at ambient temp ANSI150 rating. Strainer body cast 316s/s. Thanks Mark

RE: Cyanide corrosion

I am not sure what kind of corrosion data you are looking for.  In my experience SS should be quite good.  The only problems I have had are with velocities above 10 ft/s.  At this flow an erosion/corrosion phenomenon occurs that will shorten the life substantially of carbon steel pipes.  Also threaded pipe is not suitable for cyanide.  The local eddys at the joints are sufficient to erode the threads, eventually leaking.
