What is a safe welding operator factor.

What is a safe welding operator factor.

What is a safe welding operator factor.

(OP)
Manual welding operator factor is the percentage of actual arc time during a specified length of time.  I am looking for an industry/OSHA suggested safe operating factor.

The manufacturing industry is pushing to do more with less, but one can only weld so fast.  It is not the same as an assembler or machinist.  A high majority of people have never struck and arc or looked at a weld puddle.

Most of the parts we weld manually weight less than 40 pounds and are fixtured.  A plan is being implemented to have a seperate person load the fixture so that the welder can increase his arc time.

General physical exertion and eye strain are factors here.  I fear quality and employee satisfaction will suffer.

Any help would be appreciated,

RE: What is a safe welding operator factor.

The other thing that may suffer is the machine itself. Consider duty cycles of the weld machines. Depending on machine they can be 60% and lower. Inverters usually offer higher duty cycles. Also lowering the output parameters will lower the duty cycle. Selection of the machine for WPS is important.
