Ammonia Service

Ammonia Service

Ammonia Service

(OP)
What typical materials are used for ammonia service? And what are the corrosion mechanisms that need to be considered for this type of service? Is it considered the same as amine service?

Thanks

RE: Ammonia Service

For dealing with anhydrous ammonia service used in industrial processes, the common material of construction is pressure vessel quality carbon steel plate or piping. The corrosion mechanism is stress corrosion cracking (SCC) at high stress locations (welds) in carbon steel vessels. To avoid SCC, a small amount of water is added to anhydrous ammonia.

RE: Ammonia Service

lidia..

Which ammonia...?? Anhydrous or aqueous..???

Are you selecting materials for a tank?...because, if you are, there are other important considerations and codes that must be considered....

As always....more information about your application
