Capping beam design

Capping beam design

Capping beam design

(OP)
Hi all
I have got a project where the shoring system is formed of contiguous piles; these piles are going to carry some bearing walls which support the building.

my question is does anyone know the guide lines for design of the concrete capping beam which is going to be over the piles and supporting the bearing walls?

RE: Capping beam design

When you say "contiguous" do you mean every pile touches its adjacent pile?  Where there is no space between them?

If so, the capping beam wouldn't really do much other than create an intermediate concrete pour where rebar could be lapped between the sections.

If there is a gap, you would probably just design the beam for the wet weight of the wall concrete above and then assume that once the wall has cured the wall would be capable of arching/spanning between the piles.

well the piles are tangent to each other
should there be any shear provisions or any others for piles reinforcement that will extend inside the capping beam?
