Relay suggestions

Looking for a reliable relay:  5V to 12V drive - to control 120VAC ON/OFF.  Any suggestions?

RE: Relay suggestions

How many amps?

1A

RE: Relay suggestions

At only 1A 120V ac, there are a lot of options.  Even the lowly Potter-Brumfield type plug-in relays would probably be adequate.

If you're doing this hundreds of times per hour, you might want a heavier duty machine-tool type relay.

Is this one-off or are you looking at buying thousands of these?

RE: Relay suggestions

It's only 2 per unit.  It's for an automated machine, basically a few hundred cycles/day.  It will be used to energize a coil with 110V AC to control an air cyliner.  I'm looking at using one of IR's photovoltaics: PVA33 series - http://www.irf.com/product-info/datasheets/data/pva33n.pdf -  The goal is to keep it the control for the cylinder as small but reliable as possible.  These are much cheaper than the standard solid state relays.

RE: Relay suggestions

Go with a solid state relay, this should give you good isolation with excellent reliability.

I am an automation troubleshooter and the first 2 things i look for in most any problem is (grounds for circuits, and things in the circuit that move.(ie. switches, relays with moving parts, fans etc.)

hope this helps.
