gear ratio / hp requirements

(OP)
I am a hvac tech. and wish to get some help on calculating what gear ratio I can use and how much hp will be required for a givin application.

I have a drivin devise that requires 7.5 hp at 540 rpm and I am wondering could I produce this requirement using a .25 hp 1725 rpm driver by means of rear reduction?

I would appreciate any assistance on this matter.

RE: gear ratio / hp requirements

Come on! Don't be sillysad If you are not kidding, how can you drive a 7.5 HP machine with a 0.25 HP driver? Your minimum driver HP should be 7.5 and consider about 90% efficiency for V-Belt drive. Then it is simple arithmetic for pulley ratios.
