Hi,
Is anybody knows what is the minimum allowable distance between girth welds in pressure vessel or piping fabrication for carbon steel and stainless steel? Based on ASME code or engeineering practice.

RE: Min distance between circ seams weld

This question has been asked several times by others. My advice is to prevent adjacent circ seam weld heat affected zones from touching one another or overlapping. Beyond this requirement, circ welds can be any distance apart.

RE: Min distance between circ seams weld

I have seen it written in project specifications as a minimum of 2x the wall thickness between HAZ edges.

Alan

RE: Min distance between circ seams weld

Hi,
The two times the wall thickness is a rule of thumb. It strongly depends on the applicable design code. However, two times the WT sounds fimiliar, but a minimum of 50mm should be considered.
Success, Regards.
