Power consumption of Vacuum Pumps

Power consumption of Vacuum Pumps

Power consumption of Vacuum Pumps

(OP)
Hello Everyone,

I am trying to develop a process involving calcination of limestone under low pressures. Before i go further i need to know if it is worth it, ie. the cost of vacuum pumping.

The pressure working range would be around 10-100 mbar (abs).
I could use Rotary Vane or Liquid Ring pumps, depending on the cost.

So the question i have is : does anyone know a rough figure correlating the power consumption of a Vacuum pump to it's displacement volume, at larger scales (>40m3/min)?

A figure even for smaller scales would do for a first approach.

Thanks

RE: Power consumption of Vacuum Pumps

I have a curve for a 150 hp pump that predicts 2880 cfm capacity with 90 deg F inlet gas temp and 70 deg F seal water.  The capacity is very much dependent upon seal water temp (due to the vapor pressure of the seal water).

Good luck.

What's the electrical consumption then?

RE: Power consumption of Vacuum Pumps

Why not use an vacuum eductor/ejector system instead of a vacuum pump. Once you have started the system up it must be possible to generate steam using a WHB to drive the eductor.
