Alnor Dewpointer and Radiation Monitoring

Alnor Dewpointer and Radiation Monitoring

Alnor Dewpointer and Radiation Monitoring

(OP)
I still use an Alnor for checking furnace dewpoints. No big deal there, they still work for what I need in my heat treat.

My concern is on the regs side of the business. I have been requested to attend radiation safety training on the proper use of the Alnor, including personal and exposure monitoring.

In almost thirty years of taking dewpoints I have never been required to wear a radiation badge. I'm curious as to whether anyone else in heat treating has to deal with this.

RE: Alnor Dewpointer and Radiation Monitoring

Take a look at this brochure, especially concern the radioactive source being used. If you use Americium 241 then it requires a wipe test. If I'm not mistaken these sources are under the same class as the older smoke detectors.

Our meter had Radium 226. The only problem we had was getting rid of it, the word Radium.
