Has anyone ever tried to create this type of "hatch" in a SW drawing?

Has anyone ever tried to create this type of "hatch" in a SW drawing?

Has anyone ever tried to create this type of "hatch" in a SW drawing?

Hi Folks,

I've been asked to look into whether or not it's possible to create the hatch for insulation (shown below in yellow).  I started looking at the definitions of the standard SW hatch patterns in "Sldwks.ptn" but in reading through the instructions this doesn't appear to be an option.  Also I've downloaded a demo version of a utility called "HatchKit" and tried playing with that but this doesn't look like it'll work for me either.

The hang up appears to be that the hatch that I'm trying to make isn't really patterned the same as the standard SW hatches.  Plus it has arcs which as far as I can tell are not supported in SW hatches.  My fallback plan seems to be using the SW API to "sketch" the hatch onto a selected face in a drawing but ultimately I really don't find this to be a particularly attractive solution.

SW doesn't support custom hatches though we are able to create them.  I'm hoping that someone here at eng-tips might have some experience/insight on the topic.

Thanks,

I don't know alot about this but I've been lead to believe that any hatch pattern you have in AutoCAD can be used in Solidworks.  I believe you can copy the code for the hatch from the autoCAD hatch file and paste it into the SW hatch pattern file (ptn).  Do a search here or at comp.cad and you'll find some info on this.

Wish I was more help.

Is that hatch a hatch pattern, or is it created in AutoLISP?  I have seen that insulation batting hatch pattern before, but it was created with ALISP.  SW includes an insulation hatch, but it is completely different.

smcadman,

I was wondering that myself.  It sure looks like a LISP generated item but the people that I'm looking into this for call it a hatch pattern.  I've seen/used the insulation hatch included w/ SW and you're right it's totally different.

Anyhow I'm thinking I need to go the API route but if I can make it a hatch that would simplify things.  Doesn't appear that I'll be that lucky though.
