Process Vessel, Man-Way, Replacement Blind

Process Vessel, Man-Way, Replacement Blind

(OP)
I am looking for some insight to removing the current Man-way cover to oil & gas process vessels, & replacing them with identical ones, with the exception that I want the new ones to have a minimum of (6) penetrations, threaded  in 1" NPT..... Any available currently ? What are the governing bodies that regulate the construction of such a blind, & where can I find the codes/regs/common practices that would apply.

markedup-

You didn't state where the vessels are - what jurisdiction and codes are being used?

I'll assume you're in ASME VIII Div. 1 territory.

For starters since the manway cover is included in the vessel scope (it isn't piping)changing it out for one with openings is a vessel alteration. Check with the AI for his thoughts.

Per UG-39(a) you might not have to do any reinforcement calc's based on the UG-36(c)(3) size limits and you are dealing with 1" NPS connections. You do need to check on spacing limits though.

As for availability... You'll probably have to get a U or R stamp holder to fab them up. Check with the AI as to whether you need to have an R stamp holder do the actual bolt up (I'd guess probably not, but then, I'm not an AI). I'd be surprised to find a blind with at least 6 1" npt connections on any supplier's shelf.
