What stds 4 wiring power, control circuit in lab elec equipment

(OP)
Hi,

I am in the process of designing a piece of mains powered laboratory equipment which to all intents would be classed as a machine (ie contains powered moving components that could cause injury to operator). The system is small (sits on a bench)and is not permenantly wired in. The system would be covered by IEC 61010-1 for UL inspection purposes. My question however is what standards cover the detail of the the electrical power / control circuitry inside the device. Would it be UL508a as used for control panels or something else?

Does the NEC code apply to the inside of such equipment or is that for wiring practice within buildings rather than pieces of equipment.

Many thanks to anyone willing to have a shot at a reply.

Cheers

Mark
