Pump Testing for NPSHR
Pump Testing for NPSHR
(OP)
Hello all,
I just found this site and found some interesting threads. One spoke a little about NPSH testing and I have some products that I need to get NPSHR data on and my question is do any of you know a test house that does this type of testing?
Thanks in advance
Doug

RE: Pump Testing for NPSHR
For NPSHR, we usually go by what the pump manufacturer says.
For NPSHA, in the past, we have relied on our own data. We put a pressure transmitter in the suction to the pump.

Thanks again.
RE: Pump Testing for NPSHR
Have you tried calling another pump manufacturer and see who they use?
Also, some of them may have a lab where they will take contracts to determine NPSHR for other manufacturers. Would this work for your company?

RE: Pump Testing for NPSHR
We found with most manufacturers that they overstated (or is it understated) their NPSH values. We only found a few pumps where we could trust the vendor curves implicitly.
But, we tested all mfgr's pumps, regardless. We had to be right.

RE: Pump Testing for NPSHR
We had done this for a variety of pumps and had decided on some specific brands (we handled sea water so our range was narrowed by those who could produce pumps in all bronze or similar metallurgy's and we did Navy work, so only those who could work to Mil Specs were generally used.) So after we found the keepers, we only did further testing when new vendors were being analyzed.
