Steam driven oil pumps

Steam driven oil pumps

(OP)
Does anyone have experience with Duplex Steam Pumps, or with other manufacturers of similar, or different technologies? I am exploring possibilities for the application of steam driven pumps for service with various types of oil to include turbine oils, paper machine oils, heavier gear oils and hydraulic fluids.

Any input is appreciated.

RE: Steam driven oil pumps

It's very unlikely you'll find very many still working - or even a lot of retired guys - with steam engine experience aside from hobbiests. I worked in a plant in the early 1980's that had (among other museum pieces) a duplex steam pump for bunker oil. There's a ton of old books on this subject, because steam engines drove literally everything for well over a century. Try ebay for books, and look for an historical railway or antique farm machinery group etc in your area.

I suspect that even if you find a duplex steam pump, that the installed cost will be the end of your investigation. Good luck.

RE: Steam driven oil pumps

It is slightly more modern to have a steam turbine driving the pump.
