Wood shear wall with sprayed-in-place insulation

Has anyone heard of any research into whether sprayed-in-place foam insulation can replace blocking in wood shear walls?

RE: Wood shear wall with sprayed-in-place insulation

I am not aware of any research done in this area.  However I don't think the insulation would be able to replace the blocking.  When blocking is used the sheathing is normally nailed to the blocking.

You might try contacting a manufacturer of Structural Insulated Panels.

I can almost see that line coming out of a contractor's mouth.  Right before the "we've always done it that way" one.

RE: Wood shear wall with sprayed-in-place insulation

or we have done it that way for 10 years....

RE: Wood shear wall with sprayed-in-place insulation

or my daddy did it that way and his daddy did it that way and now I do it that way and we've NEVER had a problem.

RE: Wood shear wall with sprayed-in-place insulation

Just because your daddy did it that way and his daddy did it that way and now you do it that way DOSEN'T MEAN YOU ARE DOING IT RIGHT.
