analysis distance in NX3

New user to NX3 coming from V.18. Just wondering how to get a distance from point to point. For example I have 2 cylinders and I want to know the distance from center to center. I used to use the point subfunction option in V.18 and just choose center to center. It does not seem to be there in NX3. Any help or tips would be appreciated.

Thanks

You will need snap point toggled on and you can select your arc center.

Sandviken,

The first thing you need to do is aquaint yourself with 'Selection Intent' and the associated toolbars.  I had the same problem as you and could have saved a few brain cells if someone had made the point up front.

When taking a distance measurement in particular to your question, the snap point is probably set wrong for specifically trying to snap to 'arc center' (the toolbar snap intent is set for endpoint, control point, etc...) so a quick click of your selection intent will fix your problem (turn off control point, end pt, whatever... and click on 'arc center').

Hope this helps...

Thanks for your response.
that helped me out.

Can you now select Axis for distance references, they were always unavailible for selection and it seems parallel axes should be selectable so you wouldn't need to create or snap to points when a Datum already exists?

mjcole,

...not that I've found, but this has never been an issue with me.  Perhaps somebody else can chime in....

RE: analysis distance in NX3

With NX 4.0.3.3 you will be able to select a Datum Axis as a valid objects when performing Distance and Angles measurements in Analysis.  This is an enhancement over NX 4.0.2.2.

RE: analysis distance in NX3

a little offtopic:

John, you already mentioned in two threads here 4.0.3.3. When it will be available for download. I only see nx-4.0.1.3 and nx-4.0.2.2 uploaded on the ftp server as a maintenance-release. Or am I missing something?

sorry for the off.

NX 4.0.3.3 will be available for download by customers in early November.  Internally, we got our first verification copy of this maintenace release last week and if all goes well, it will be certified and made available in the same manner as past mainteance releases, including the issueing of a software field bulletin when it's official.
