SW2007 Grinding to a Halt

SW2007 Grinding to a Halt

(OP)
Im currently being driven insane by SW2007 x64 and its random delay in opening small size assemblies. Im opening previously worked on models about 6mb in size over the network and they are taking over 5mins to open & then whilst working on them the stop responding and i have to wait again. It is a nightmare when switching from a part and back to the assembly as it seems to be reloading each time. Has anyone any suggestions as to why my system has ground to a halt?

We have 2 computers in the design office, exactly the same spec machines & the other is fine. I reinstalled everything on friday & it was back to normal, however today its the same? mad

Any suggestions would be most appreciated! Cheers Lee

Open the Task Manager to see what is using the CPU when the slowdown happens.

Also compare all the SW settings on both computers. maybe even copy the settings from the "good" one to yours.

There is a slight cpu spike when first opening the model to 65% for a few seconds but the remaining time is between 15~25%. The status bar in SW stops showing any parts loading however the task manager will show it not responding. The network ststus shows peak 30% for a few seconds too but then stays at 5% for the remaining load time.

The thing is i hadnt changed anything since friday when it was working fine. now its like running SW on a 486!

RE: SW2007 Grinding to a Halt

Check your network connections. Are you running a 10/100 LAN? Maybe your connection is 10 & the other computers is 100. Can you load the files locally & try opening?

RE: SW2007 Grinding to a Halt

Have your models been converted and saved in 2007 format yet?  If not, you may consider making a back-up of your 2006 files, creating a new directory of copied files, and running the conversion wizard to bring them into 2007 format.  There could be a delay caused by opening the older format, particularly over a network.

RE: SW2007 Grinding to a Halt

If the models are from SW06 that will take longer because it must convert them over to SW07. Also working across a network is a no no. Try opening them local and see if that faster.. after you save the files to SW07 they should run better, especially if you are working locally.

Well after some re-installing and cursing it would appear that the photoworks addin is what is slowing the system down. I know the network issue is there and when the pdm works is finally up and running this problem should be less of an issue as working from local drives but for now im happy to disable the plugin and only add if i need to produce some marketing images.

Cheers for the helpful advice people
