Pole Foundation Question

Pole Foundation Question

Pole Foundation Question

(OP)
I'm doing a preliminary design for a dredge rail and I'm trying to decide what type of foundation to use for the posts.  Here's the info:

No soils information (preliminary design)
Post Height: approx 3'
Vertical load: approx 1 kip
Horizontal load: 6 kips

I' thinking that the posts could just be embedded in a cylindrical foundation and designed like a pile using L-pile.  Does anyone have any suggestions?

This is dredging system by Liquid Waste Technology.  If anyone has any experience with them please let me know.

RE: Pole Foundation Question

You can use the pole embedment equations found in IBC Chapter 18 equation 18-1 or 18-2.  Without a soils report, use conservative lateral bearing values for the soil.

Older information is available on my website homepage (link below). See "Pole Building Design" by Donald Patterson.
