center lock wheel nuts
center lock wheel nuts
(OP)
I am looking for information on wheel nut designs used for racing. There seem to be 2 types of centerlock wheels/hubs, large diameter hollow "studs" with tapered nuts, and smaller solid studs where the wheels appear to center on a tapered sleeve that fits around the stud and the nut has a large cone washer to clamp the wheel. Im trying to determine the joint stiffnes of different designs but i can not seem to find any details on how the tapered nut will effect the design. for example the angle used in determining the pressure frustrum. Also for left and right hand threads what determines which sides gets what? It seems that the highest torque generated by that axle should work to tighten the nut but i have heard of all different combinations.
