End of Life Vehicle Directive (EU) Economics

(OP)
With the recent passing of the ELV directive in Europe I was wondering where an authorised treatment facility makes its money.  The vehicle must be taken free of charge.  Is there really a market for the disassembled vehicle?

RE: End of Life Vehicle Directive (EU) Economics

It works quite well here without the weight of law.

Individuals can make a nice living collecting derelict cars and removing them free of charge and selling the spare parts and scrap.

RE: End of Life Vehicle Directive (EU) Economics

The same stateside.  Many flooded cars that were abandoned in New Orleans "dissappeared", and businesses are always advertiseing that they will remove your car for free.

RE: End of Life Vehicle Directive (EU) Economics

some business even pay for you old cars.  I got $100 from a scrapyard for a car that I'd paid $50 for - I bought it thinking "at this price, I can't lose!" then decided it couldn't be fixed to my satisfaction, and I drove it to the scrapyard to turn it in.
