AISC Section Property Spreadsheet

AISC Section Property Spreadsheet

AISC Section Property Spreadsheet

(OP)
Does anybody have a spreadsheet that lists all steel beam section properties? I would like to incorporate this into my spreadsheets. I'd appreciate any help. Thank you.

Anything better than $40? I don't think I can get reimbursed for this.

RE: AISC Section Property Spreadsheet

If I went to all the trouble to make one of those, I wouldn't want to give it away for free.

If you buy an AISC membership (more than $40 but worth it in terms of publication discounts), looks like you can have AISC's official version:
http://www.aisc.org/Content/NavigationMenu/ePubs/ePubs_Home/AISC_SHAPES_DATABASE/AISC_SHAPES_DATABASE.htm

Here's one for $30:

But then, you could do the same Google search for "aisc shapes spreadsheet" as I am.

I've tried googling it too, but I haven't had any luck. I guess I will have to pay for one. Seems like it's worth the money anyways. Thanks for your tips. Much appreciated.

BEEEEAUTIFUL. Thank you so much.

SWEET! Even Better. Very comprehensive. Thank you GroStruc.

RE: AISC Section Property Spreadsheet

The spreadsheet you are looking for is in CD-ROM companion to AISC 13th Edition Steel Design Manual.

Thanks for the heads up yakpol, but I do not have the 13th edition. I am guessing that that is the black, mut steel manual. I will stick to my pure bread blue and greens. Not willing to pay $300 to confuse myself even more.

Anyhow, I think I did get a cd rom with my lrfd steel manual, do you know if the steel spreadsheet is included in that cd?

RE: AISC Section Property Spreadsheet

They did revise some of the larger sizes in the last couple of years, for what that's worth.  At least, they did in ASTM A 6, and as far as I know that's the source for the listings in the AISC manual.

Hg,

I just checked my 1989 9th ed. ASD steel manual against my newer 2001 3rd ed. LRFD steel manual. The LRFD manual shows several bigger W shapes. I also found that the larger beams show different dimensional values. Thank you for that insight.

RE: AISC Section Property Spreadsheet

ChongMin,
I don't own neither of AISC manuals, and don't know anyting about cd to the previous LRFD edition. For some reason AISC keeps the shapes database away from free distribution. Even being a member of AISC I could not download it from the website (it's possible only if you login as an "official" AISC representetive of the company).

RE: AISC Section Property Spreadsheet

There was another change made to larger shapes in ASTM A 6 in 2005 or so.

RE: AISC Section Property Spreadsheet

Try the following site:

http://octavia.ce.washington.edu/cee458/Sectiondata2.txt

In the past I have found AISC shape data on other university sites also.  I have read that the AISC considers this copyrighted material so there isn't really too much free info available.  This links to a text file but it could be reformatted in a spreadsheet with a little effort.

RE: AISC Section Property Spreadsheet

I found a good way to extract data for the steel props

http://www.efunda.com/math/areas/IndexArea.cfm

Scroll to the bottom of the page and click on "STEEL W TYPE I-BEAMS".  Then click on "ALL" and then "GET".

I used this suggestion by TampaBridgeDesign and when the page came up used print to pdf and extracted data column wise to an excel sheet!!!

RE: AISC Section Property Spreadsheet

Does any one have any idea where i can find the surface area and box area tables for W shapes?

RE: AISC Section Property Spreadsheet

Try the AISC manual.

RE: AISC Section Property Spreadsheet

Surface area and box perimeters and areas can be found starting on page 1-111 of the 3rd edition AISC LRFD Manual.  They are not in the 13th edition AISC manual.  You can also find them in the AISC Design Guide 19, Fire Resistance of Structural Steel Framing.  I would think a free spreadsheet could be found with a little searching.
