WA Map Showing Snow Load Zones

WA Map Showing Snow Load Zones

WA Map Showing Snow Load Zones

(OP)
I'd really appreciate links to information (maps) for WASHINGTON (WA) State.

I've looked for a while now and just can't come up w/ anything.  We have several 8 1/2" x 11" maps but they're just parts of the whole state map I'd like to find.  You know they are a topo w/ lines running trough and they have 55# 40# 35# 25# and so on?
The page I actually looking at right now says at the bottom:  Snow Load Analysis from SEA of WA...but call me a dork because even w/ that I can't find what I want.

So maybe a diff way of googling it?  Cant really list all the ways I've tried though.

Thanks,
Ronelle

RE: WA Map Showing Snow Load Zones

I gave up years ago trying to figure it out for myself the snow loads in Washington from the maps.  I just call the building department where the project is being done and ask for the snow load at that site.  Many areas are pretty stable at 25 psf especially around the Puget Sound area but up in the Cascade range it can vary greatly within a few miles.  In counties like Kittitas where they have snow loads up to 400 psf if you give them the site address they give you the specific snow load right over the phone and they encourage engineers and designers to call.  They also have a special form that must be filled out stating that you considered all the aspects of snow loads over 50 psf in your design and it lists their requirements.

My interest is in the zone maps, that I can plot out on 24 x 36 paper and hang up in each of our designers offices...even if I need to make two or three maps it'd be nicer than thumbing trough our tables and smaller maps.

Someone here said that a while back they had a partial map that was in pdf format, but didnt know how to use the plotter so just forgot about it, and now he can't seem to locate it.

Anyway that's what we usually do if it's not speced on the master plans when they come in. Thanks for your help Rock.

RE: WA Map Showing Snow Load Zones

In colorado I usually call the building department.  Some counties have an equation where you plug in the elevation and it will give u the snow load.

RE: WA Map Showing Snow Load Zones

The order form for the SEAW document I gave the link to states:

"This edition provides a large color map for each half of
the state with normalized ground snow load isolines and elevation contours to help readily determine the ground snow
load anywhere in the state. Cities, towns, counties, roads and various bodies of water are shown to provide convenient reference."

I haven't ordered the new addition yet but this may be the type of map you are looking for.  For $30 it's worth a shotreading

RE: WA Map Showing Snow Load Zones

In recent years local jurisdictions in Washington State have been specifying a "roof snow load".  In those jurisdications the maps and the calculations (deductions) for slope are moot.  One local jurisdiction in western WA that I am dealing with now has a roof snow load that is five pounds higher than the ground snow load specified in the IBC.  This was done because of unusually heavy snows that ocurred in the mid 90's.  The best bet is just check with whichever jurisdiction you are dealing with.
