Predicting performance of heat exchanger in future
Predicting performance of heat exchanger in future
(OP)
Hi everyone
What i am trying to do is size new control valves on the cooling medium output side.
What i have is a shell and tube heat exchagner where the process side flowrate is diminishing as a function of time. The cooling water in this case seawater is being manipulated to control the process side output to a fixed temperature i.e. 37 degrees.
I know the cooling water will decrease as a function of time. What i am trying to calculate is the future flow rate and seawater cooling outlet temp. Note i have overral future mass balances for the process side. I have done this originally on hysys steady state model adn get good predictions based against the original dsign. For the future prediction is it wise to fix the U value or delta P. Note i note in norsok a max temp of approx 50 degrees for seawater. If the temp goes above this i assume im in plugging tubes teritory (no problem as i have TASC)
You comments and technical advise is much appreciated.

RE: Predicting performance of heat exchanger in future
Use the NTU/effectiveness method to estimate the future seawater outlet temperature.

i would calculate and plot the data as well and extrapolate the curves.. neither will exactly model your systems but then you will have an idea of the range of the system trends...
