Slave cylinder corrosion prevention

Is there something that I can coat the "back" area of clutch slave and brake cylinders with to reduce corrosion?  It seems the boots do not keep out all moisture and condensation on vehicles that are use infrequently.  Thanks for any help.

RE: Slave cylinder corrosion prevention

Brake fluid or brake assembly lube only.

RE: Slave cylinder corrosion prevention

Brake fluid is hygroscopic, so it will alway attract water through any space any larger than a water molecule, so in practical terms, it is impossible to keep the fluid dry over time when in use.

One approach is to change fluids regularly.

Another is to use corrosion resistant components when repairs are carried out. One example is to line hydraulic  cylinders with a stainless steel tube.

Glop it up with silicone grease. Or use a glycol based grease, such as Batco.

Thanks Swall.  I jsut did not want to coat it with something that would deteriorate the piston seals or dust boots.  Thanks Fabrico.  I was not sure about the assembly lube.  It does feel like a silicone grease.  MWPC

Interestitngly, most brake lubes list anti-rust additives and brake fluids list anti-corrosion additives.

RE: Slave cylinder corrosion prevention

Rust only effects ferrous metals where as corrosion can effect anything.

Ah, so why the difference?

Sounds like marketing to me.
