RE: 3d model of military humvee

A "Google" (Web and Images sections) for 3D Humvee returns lots of hits.

thanx guys,

maybe i should have worded the description better.

i need a PARAMETRIC 3d SOLID, (solidworks, solidedge, inventor, etc.) not a 3d model for gaming.

RE: 3d model of military humvee

There are people out there trying to blow-up humvees every day.

Does anyone else wonder why we, as a nation, continue to allow this level of detail of military equipment to be easily available to the public?

RE: 3d model of military humvee

Level of detail?  It's still a cartoon, with indication of the actual strength or type of materials.  As with the Redcoats and the colonists, a standing army fighting against a guerilla force is almost always at a disadvantage, given the groundrules.

They aren't "trying," they ARE blowing up Humvees, but not because there're cartoons of Humvees on the web.  It's because the Humvee had inadequate armor for this particular task, otherwise, it would have been a Bradley, instead.

Moreover, most, if not all, of these models do not reflect the up-armored Humvee.

RE: 3d model of military humvee

Yeah, don't worry about someone using one of these models to simulate blowing up a humvee.

First, it's not hard to get a real humvee to test.

Second, these models are often made by hand from freely available pictures of vehicles, and are not controlled in any fashion, just like you could recreate a power plant from pictures of everything provided a scale.  Your model isn't going to be useful for any critical analysis.

Finally, a real FEA quality model is only going to be available from the company and they already control these models to prevent competitors from using their hard earned data.

Mr. Vaporware is correct.

I am working on a project in Canada for the U.S.M.C. and i am unable to have models released to me because i am outside the U.S.

Hence my problem!!!!!!!!!!!

I have a HMMWV sitting out in the parking lot. My problem is that i need to create a drawing showing the position of the 6 components that we have designed. I would like to put them into a solid parametric model, or even a dumb solid, as long as the surfaces are accurate (not a cartoon).

I don't have time to dis-assemble the vehicle outside and retro-engineer the whole thing.I could get by with just the interior of the cabin. I would like to figure out cable runs.

P.S.   mintjulep ......I'm on your side. Our equipment will make the more stable, more accurate and more deadly at high speed.

RE: 3d model of military humvee

If you're working as a government contractor, you might be able to work the supply chain back to GM and get detailed dimensions of what you need.

Actually, I'm a bit surprised that such dimensions are not part of your contract. I used to work for a US Navy contractor and our contracts always included sufficient details so that we could mock up (in CAD) the submarine or ship surface to which we'd be interfacing.

We never got to park a 688 out in the parking lot winky smile  We did get the UH-60's to fly over and demo our systems for us, though.

RE: 3d model of military humvee

You're just going to heve to swag it.  It's unlikely that any of the available models will show the interior.

RE: 3d model of military humvee

Go back to your customer and explain that you need the interface drawings for your subsystem. If he says no, go to your project manager and explain what is going on. Hopefully he'll have enough clout to get the dimesnions picked off the CAD, for you.

RE: 3d model of military humvee

If you can't get the models from GM in a timely manner there is another way to get those surfaces.  I've worked with 3D scanning companies in the past and they can recreate the surfaces, possibly on location or possibly from a local Humvee.  I've only heard of external surfaces being modeled, but it'd be worth calling them up and asking about the interior. I worked with http://www.3dscanco.com who are just the nicest guys.
