Hi,

Please contribute to the advantages and disadvantages of the following short circuit methods:

1. Hand calculations: in particular methods of symmetrical components

2. Skm software

Thanks

RE: comparsion of short circuit methods

Advantages:

1.  Cheap.  Aids in understanding of the problem.  Flexible.  QA possible.

2.  Easy.  Can handle complicated systems.

RE: comparsion of short circuit methods

Hand Calcs: 1960

SKM: 2000

The biggest problem is giving someone inexperienced the software because they do not know when they made a mistake or sometime is not correct.

RE: comparsion of short circuit methods

1. Only practical for very small systems.

2. Practical for everything but very small systems.

Thanks for all the replies

RE: comparsion of short circuit methods

If I'm doing a big calc in SKM, I usually do a hand calc for a couple selected fault locations to "ballpark" verify the SKM results.

If I'm only needing a fault level for one or two locations, I generally just do the calc by hand to keep my skills honest.
