SWX on XP Home / Media Center
SWX on XP Home / Media Center
(OP)
I'm thinking of buying a laptop which will for the most part be used for my personal internet, e-mail, etc. I will occasionally have the need to use it for some Solidworks stuff from home. I don't want to get into a discussion of which laptop to get, because I already know that it won't be ideal from a hardware standpoint. For the limited amount I will use SWX on this laptop, I'm OK with a performance hit.
I'm wondering what your experiences are with SWX running on XP Home or Media Center? These operating systems are much more common in the garden variety laptops than XP Pro and if one is better than the other I'd like to know it going in. As far as my personal use goes, I really don't care which OS I get.
Thanks,
Dave Gowans

In my last job, I was running Siemens PLC software. Although it called for XP Pro, it did run on XP Home (though with the occasional crash). A few months later, when I tried to install a service pack, it wouldn't install because I wasn't running XP Pro.
At least with Dell, it's cheaper to upgrade the OS when you order than if you just buy a stand-alone Home-to-Pro update.
Just something to consider.
