I have a slipping HTD timing belt. We use custom length endless timing belts that we can't get in neoprene. We've found the polyurethane more subject to slippage/climbing teeth. I sprayed some aerosol glue & it seems to help. Is this common practice or is there anything better?

Thanks, VBK

RE: polyurethane belt adhesive

vbk,

Not sure of your application, but could you use a polychain belt vs. the timing belt (Gates product) I believe the polychain would minimize the sliping if not eliminate it. You might take a look at the Gates website.

RE: polyurethane belt adhesive

It is not a common practice to use any kind of belt dressing on a positive drive belt. Usually it would imply that the there is not enough tension on the belt, however excess tension will tear apart your spliced belt. I would try some different manufacturers of belts, to see if a mold is feasable. Some manufacturers tie knots in the cord of spliced belts, still not as strong as endless cords, but a lot stronger than spliced belts.
