Proving Arc-Flash Compliance...

Proving Arc-Flash Compliance...

Proving Arc-Flash Compliance...

(OP)
A customer asked us to make sure our panels are Arc-Flash Compliant, and if they aren't - they told us we need to use a divider between the 480V and 120V circuitry.  We've never had to deal with this issue, how/where can I find info on proving that our panel would be Arc-Flash compliant?  Is it a matter of all the 480V devices being listed by the MFG as being compliant, or are there calculations and a certain rating in UL508 or NFPA79 to list a panel as arc-flash compliant?? thanks in advance for any help...

RE: Proving Arc-Flash Compliance...

I don't think your client understands arc flash hazards.  The arc flash hazard depends on the electrical system available fault current and impedance.  This varies from plant to plant and their panel would have to be labeled for the specific installation.

I have not seen any standards for arc flash compliant panels.  Are they making the request so there is no exposed 480 V energized components, so arc flash does not apply?

RE: Proving Arc-Flash Compliance...

It depends on what country you are in, if in the USA, wbd is right, it is the end users issue, not the installer.
