Is there any way to have a custom property
description show in win explorer?

RE: Win Explorer file "description"

I don't know of a way to show the Custom or Config Specific properties, but you can show the Summary properties.

When in Win Explorer, RMB click on the title bar and select from the drop down list.

I'm trying to get away from entering a part description
in 2 places if possible. I would like the description I
enter for the BOM to show in win explorer. The way they
name files here now is the part # and description all in
the filename. This doesn't bode well for populating a
BOM...any suggestions...?

What we do is in the Model we add informatiopn in the Summary, as CBL said.  We use Title and Author, this information appears in Windows Explorer.  The Title (Description) and Author (Designer's Initials) information is very useful to us.  We find this a fast way to find a certain Drawing.  You might have to change the Window Explorer column names to have this work.  Hope this helps.
