KHK standards for preessure vessels

KHK standards for preessure vessels

KHK standards for preessure vessels

(OP)
I have a customer that wants our auxillary pressure vessel to meet KHK standards. we have designed to ASME Sect VIII div1.
MAWP is 765 at 40C (operating temp). We were using forged 6 inch ANSI B16.5 Class 400 steel lap joint flanges, but I understand that KHK requires 43mm thick flange vs 41mm for Class 400. Vessel is 304 stainless made from 6 inch Sch 80 seamless pipe with ID machined to 5.906 ID and OD machined to give 0.195 thick wall. Vessel is capped with butt welded flat head 1.44 thick machined back to 0.80 inch thick with .38 radiuses at the corners.
Questions:
1. Is 43mm flange required, or will standard CL 400 be acceptable.
2. Are wall section acceptable to KHK standards, and what standard is applicable (so we can purchase for our library)

RE: KHK standards for preessure vessels

You are in for a ride. Your design must be reviewed and preapproved in Japan before you start.

If your AIA is HSB go the web site under "Foreign Codes". Links, forms and information are there.

Try-- for a start.

THANK YOU FOR THE REFERENCE WEB SITE

RE: KHK standards for preessure vessels

KHK is special authorized Inspector for High Pressure Gas Safety Law (HPGSL) Japan.

Their inspector will inspect equipment when it is manufactured in Japan.

But for foreign country, they have approved Inspector agency list for each country such as HSB as Mr. Deanc said, or LR. So you must ask them who is AI in your country or ask to HSB or LR.

As I know, we have to submit design appraisal to them (actually before start manufacturing). I hope "approved Inspector agency" in your country can help you to do this appraisal.

I don't know whether they can accept pv designed by ASME or not.

Basically their code was taken from old ASME under 1998, so you need to use ASME allowable stress in 1998 or under, so please recheck your design to make confidence when you appraised design document.

Material shall be JIS or ASME (not ASTM).

then categorize your vessel, depend on that classification, you may need to submit several documents for application such as application form, mfg schedule, wps, pqr, dwg, etc.

Inspection reports based on their form shall be also prepared.

Mostly above required documents are written in Japanese :)

Because of that, Asking to LR or HSB to support you from application until shipping is the easiest way.
