WIREFRAME MODEL ALTERING

WIREFRAME MODEL ALTERING

WIREFRAME MODEL ALTERING

(OP)
I have a 3d wireframe model of a part that I am designing. I would like to move the individual points (with lines attached) to different points either numerically, or by dragging.

Problem is, when I move a point, the lines move, which is want, but sometimes other points or lines move, sometimes a long ways away from where I am working. I have deleted all of the relations but this doesn't work, and also have disabled the external relations.

Is there something that I overlooking, hidden relations that I am not seeing?

I am using Solidworks 2005.

Thanks

RE: WIREFRAME MODEL ALTERING

When you say you disabled the external relations did you go to tools -> options -> sketch -> relations/snaps and uncheck Enable snapping?

That is not what I meant. I went to the options and for external relations, checked the box. I think that this relates to the parts relation to other parts in an assembly, but I have checked it anyway. I am talking more about the lines and points relations to others in either the same sketch or same part.

I just want to be able to alter the position of some of the points, thereby changing the shape, but when dragging or changing the numbers, wierd stuff happens, points shoot off into space.

RE: WIREFRAME MODEL ALTERING

The Display/Delete Relations tool in the Sketch toolbar controls the same-sketch relations.

Is there a specific reason why you are working in wireframe mode? Weldment, surfaces, etc?

cheers

RE: WIREFRAME MODEL ALTERING

Your description of "points shoot[ing] off into space" sounds like what happens when something is constrained in 2D and gets moved to a relative position from a 3D angle.  Like, if you rotate the view and the point looks like it lines up from that angle, but really it's two miles closer to the camera and stuck on a different plane.

I hope that made sense?  It sounds like you're modeling things the way graphics programs like Lightwave or 3DS do, rather than parametrically.  There are some interesting 'flex & deform' style tools in SWx but without knowing more specifics I don't know how to help.
