Hello,

I meshed a plate of glass with shells. Ansys gives me a picture of results (principal stress), with positive and negative values. Stupid question : positive is tension or compression ?

Thanks a lot

RE: Sign of principal stress (S1) : tension or compression

Hi,

Why don't you plot the principal stress as vectors. The arows of the vectors tells you about the type of stress (compression or tension).

Regards,
Alex

PS: I suppose, positive must be tension...
