Failed to save document??

Failed to save document??

Failed to save document??

(OP)
Has anyone else come across 'Failed to save document' when saving a file in Solidworks. I'm using 2006 SP4 at the moment, but I have seen this on previous releases. It mainly seems to occur on lrage assemblies / drawings, but sometimes it can occur on smaller assemblies. I'm not sure if its linked to a part/assembly not being rebuilt properly or something else.
If you have seen this, and know how to get around it please let me know.

Thanks

Woolly

RE: Failed to save document??

You are probably running out of resources (RAM & VM)

How much of each do you have?

cheers

We are running 64 bit machines with 4Gb of RAM, and VM set to 2Gb, so we shouldn't be getting the problem.

RE: Failed to save document??

After opening the problem files, are you able to do a forced rebuild OK?

Is there a common or derived component (sketch, part or sub-assy) in them?

cheers

RE: Failed to save document??

Yes I recently had this problem (thread559-163921). However, I don't know what it could be. We sent it off to solidworks 2 or 3 weeks ago, and I have heard nothing.

Sorry Woolly, but no one seems to know that this problem is.

RE: Failed to save document??

I just found this in the Knowledge base at the customer portal site:

"Failed to save document" when saving this assembly drawing.

The amount of memory required to save this drawing exceeds the 32 bit operating system memory limit. Either working in lightweight mode or using a 64 bit operating system are the solutions to this problem.

Is that 64 bit CPU and XPx64 and SWx64?

Try upping the VM to at least 4GB. XPx64 can handle way more than that.

If you have an all x64 system, make sure the /3GB switch has NOT been enabled. It will hold the system back if it has been.
