Does anyone have any good techniques on retrieving Xrefs from a DWG that is going to be emailed??

It's best to use relative paths when doing this.  If you use absolute paths then the recipient is required to have those exact paths on their computer.  Even with relative paths, the recipient may not like that a bunch of folders get created on his/her computer.  If you can use the same folder as the drawing and use relative paths, it will be easiest for the recipient.  My opinion only......

you could also bind the xrefs to the drawing depending on the needs on either end.
